My County ("we", "our", or "us") is a community social media platform
designed for Kenyan county residents to share news, community reports, announcements,
marketplace listings, and connect with neighbours. We are committed to protecting
your privacy and handling your personal data responsibly.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and
your rights regarding your data. By using My County, you agree to the practices
described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Name and profile photo (from your Google account when you sign in)
- Email address (from Google Sign-In)
- Phone number (optional, if you choose to add one)
- Date of birth and gender (optional, for profile completeness)
Profile & Location Information
- Your selected county, constituency, ward, and village/town
- Biography and other profile details you choose to provide
User-Generated Content
- Posts, community reports, alerts, and announcements you create
- Comments, replies, and reactions
- Photos and images you upload
- Marketplace listings, business directory entries, and event postings
- Direct messages sent through in-app chat
Usage Data
- Posts you like, confirm, or interact with
- Your selected location filter within the app
- Device type and operating system (collected by Firebase Analytics)
- App crash reports and performance metrics
Safety & Moderation Data
- Reports you submit about content or other users
- Block actions you take against other users
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To display community content relevant to your location
- To enable communication between users (comments, likes, chat)
- To send push notifications about activity on your posts and community
- To moderate content and maintain community safety
- To investigate reports of harmful content, including child safety violations
- To improve app features and fix technical issues
- To comply with applicable laws and legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties.
We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
3. Third-Party Services We Use
My County uses the following services, each with their own privacy policies:
Google Firebase
- Firebase Authentication — manages sign-in and account security
- Cloud Firestore — stores your posts, comments, and profile data
- Firebase Storage — stores images you upload
- Firebase Cloud Messaging — delivers push notifications

Google Sign-In
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from
Google's OAuth service. We do not have access to your Google password.

4. Data Storage and Security
- All data is stored on Google Firebase servers (Europe West region).
- Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS and at rest by Firebase.
- Access to your account is protected by Firebase Authentication.
- We restrict access to personal data to authorised team members only.
- Content reports (including child safety reports) are stored securely and accessible only to administrators.
While we implement strong security measures, no system is 100% secure.
If you suspect unauthorised access, contact us immediately.
5. Data Retention
- Your account data is retained while your account is active.
- Posts, comments, and listings remain until you delete them or your account.
- If you delete your account, we will delete your personal profile data within 30 days.
- Content reports may be retained for legal compliance purposes even after account deletion.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information in your profile
- Delete your account and associated data
- Export your posts and profile information on request
- Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account
- Object to processing of your personal data

7. Children's Privacy & Safety
My County is not intended for children under the age of 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.
We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) content.
Users can report concerns directly within the app. All such reports are treated as priority.

8. Location Information
My County does not access your device's GPS or precise location.
You manually select your county, constituency, ward, and local area when setting up your profile.
This location is stored in your profile and used to show relevant local content.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements.
When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app.
Continued use of My County after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
